Sunny Deol’s iconic film Border (1997) celebrated its 27th anniversary on June 13, and to mark the occasion, Deol announced a sequel. The follow-up, titled Border 2, will be directed by Anurag Singh. This announcement came after weeks of speculation about Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana leading the film.
However, it’s surprising to know that Ayushmann Khurrana has decided to drop out of the project.
Ayushmann Khurrana Bows Out Of Border 2 Due To Role Uncertainty
According to sources close to the development, Khurrana’s exit followed months of discussions with the film’s makers.
“Ayushmann was in talks to play a soldier in the sequel. While both he and the makers were keen on collaborating, the actor felt unsure of his role in an ensemble cast led by Sunny, who is a major star in his own right,” a source revealed to Mid-day.
Diljit Dosanjh Has Been Approached For A Role In The Film
JP Dutta, who directed the original Border, will co-produce the sequel. The film is expected to be just as star-studded as its predecessor. There have been rumours that Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh might join the cast.
“Nothing is confirmed yet. But Diljit has been approached by the makers. It will be exciting to see him and Sunny Deol share screen space, given their strong following in north India,” the source added.
The film’s production is set to begin in November, although an official confirmation from producer Nidhi Dutta was not available at the time of writing.
Border 2 Cast To Abe Announced Soon At A Grand Event
Speculation about the cast did rounds with names like Ayushmann Khurrana and Diljit Dosanjh being tossed around. Now, as per the latest reports, Ayushmann is out of the project.
Recently, Binnoy K Gandhi talked about the project and told Bollywood Hungama, “The star cast will be announced soon. Within a month, we are going to organise a big event where we are going to showcase the entire star cast with their characters and their getups.”
