Diwali 2027 has found its first true mega face off, and it is the kind exhibitors will watch for months. Spirit, the Prabhas starrer directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, was earlier officially slated for a March 5, 2027 theatrical release. Its move to the Diwali 2027 corridor now puts it directly against Ramayana Part 2, the second chapter of Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious mythological epic led by Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi and Sunny Deol.
Spirit Moves From March 2027 To The Diwali Window
The release shift dramatically changes the market equation around Spirit. Instead of arriving in a relatively open early 2027 frame, the film now enters one of the most competitive and lucrative festive slots in the Indian theatrical calendar. That instantly turns its release into a high stakes box office contest, especially with another event scale spectacle already occupying the same window.
Spirit is written, edited and directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, with Prabhas fronting the multilingual theatrical project. Ever since its announcement, the film has stayed firmly on the trade radar because it pairs one of Indian cinema’s biggest stars with a filmmaker known for mounting intensely discussed big screen dramas.
Ramayana Part 2 Was Already Parked For Diwali 2027
On the other side of the clash is Ramayana Part 2, which has already been positioned for Diwali 2027 in the film’s official rollout. The two part saga stars Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi in the central cast, with Sunny Deol also featuring in a key role. The first film, Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, is scheduled to release globally on November 5, 2026, while the second part has been announced for Diwali 2027.
That gives this clash unusual scale. One film is a mass action title headlined by Prabhas and directed by Vanga. The other is a large format mythological event featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Rama and Yash as Ravana, with the story expanding into its war driven second chapter.
Why This Diwali Clash Feels So Big
This is not just a date overlap. It is a collision of two very different theatrical propositions aimed at the same premium holiday frame. Spirit carries the pull of Prabhas and Vanga’s intense big screen style, while Ramayana Part 2 comes loaded with franchise momentum, visual spectacle, and an ensemble that includes Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash and Sunny Deol.
Ramayana is backed by Namit Malhotra and has been designed as a two film saga. The premise centres on the ancient epic’s battle between Rama and Ravana, with the second instalment moving into the larger conflict and climax. Spirit, by contrast, has been positioned as an action driven star vehicle under Vanga’s direction. That also makes Prabhas’ own release trajectory worth watching, because Spirit now carries added importance within his upcoming slate.
Prabhas’ Recent And Upcoming Work
Prabhas was last seen in Kalki 2898 AD in 2024, one of the biggest theatrical successes of his recent career. Before that came Salaar: Part 1 Ceasefire in 2023 and Adipurush in 2023. His confirmed upcoming theatrical lineup includes Fauzi in December 2026 and Spirit in 2027. With Spirit now eyeing the Diwali corridor, the film becomes an even bigger centerpiece in Prabhas’ next theatrical phase.
