Prithviraj Sukumaran is expected to star opposite Kareena Kapoor in Meghna Gulzar’s next film, tentatively titled Daayra. The Malayalam actor stepped in after Ayushmann Khurrana exited the project due to scheduling conflicts.

According to a report from India Today, Prithviraj’s character is expected to be a cop, and the film’s storyline draws inspiration from a real and unsettling incident.
Sources indicate that Prithviraj liked the script and its powerful message. “Prithviraj connected with the script and its powerful message. His role is essential to driving the narrative, while Kareena’s character will show her in a new light, blending strength, vulnerability, and intuition” the source said.
Ayushmann Khurrana’s exit came as he juggled multiple commitments, including a major music tour across several U.S. cities. He also has upcoming films like Border 2 and projects with Karan Johar, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Maddock Films.
Unfortunately, overlapping schedules left him unable to commit to Daayra, paving the way for Prithviraj to take the lead.
His Work Front
Prithviraj Sukumaran is no stranger to varied roles. He was recently seen in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, where he portrayed the antagonist alongside stars Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff.
Additionally, he starred in Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life), a gripping tale based on Benyamin’s acclaimed novel. In that film, he portrayed the harrowing journey of Najeeb, an immigrant worker trapped in slavery in the Middle East.
On the directorial front, Prithviraj is busy with his own project, L2E: Empuraan. This film is a sequel to the blockbuster Lucifer from 2019 and has already generated a lot of buzz among fans. The film will feature the beloved character Stephen Nedumpally, played by Mohanlal, and will be released in multiple languages.
