Ayushmann Khurrana has reportedly stepped away from Meghna Gulzar’s highly anticipated crime thriller, which also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan. The film, tentatively titled Daayra, was set to explore a harrowing crime story based on the Hyderabad rape case. However, Khurrana’s departure has raised eyebrows, particularly as the project is set to begin shooting later this year.
Here’s Why Ayushmann Khurrana Chose To Opt Out Of The Project
According to Mid-day, Khurrana’s packed schedule for the latter part of 2024 has led to his exit from the film. He’s reportedly tied up with a US music tour and two other film projects, including Border 2.
“The dates are currently being negotiated for all the projects, but Meghna’s movie is not on his list. The production team has been informed, and Gulzar is said to be scouting for a suitable replacement,” the report states.
Earlier, Pinkvilla had highlighted the film’s significance, noting, “It’s a hard-hitting film that warrants the presence of actors with the calibre of Kareena Kapoor Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana. The duo read the script and were shocked by the details of the case. After Talvar, this is another film that could shock the nation and stir a conversation about the case.”
Ayushmann & Kareena Kapoor’s Work Front
On the professional front, Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest release was Dream Girl 2, a sequel to his 2019 hit Dream Girl. Directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, the film saw Khurrana in dual roles and was well-received upon its release on August 25, 2023. Khurrana is also set to appear in Karan Johar’s upcoming spy comedy.
Talking about Kareena Kapoor Khan, the actress was recently seen in the comedy-drama Crew, alongside Tabu, Kriti Sanon, Diljit Dosanjh, and Kapil Sharma. Directed by Rajesh A Krishnan, Crew has been well-received by both critics and audiences.
Kareena’s next big project is Rohit Shetty’s action drama Singham Again, featuring a star-studded cast including Ajay Devgn, Deepika Padukone, Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, and Akshay Kumar.
