Priyanka Chopra was once set to play the lead in Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, but things took a different turn. Deepika Padukone ended up playing the role, while Priyanka only appeared in a song. Her mother Dr Madhu Chopra recently spoke about the casting change and how Priyanka handled it.
Priyanka Chopra Was Replaced By Deepika In Ram-Leela
In an interview with Lehren Retro, Madhu Chopra recalled that Priyanka was initially considered for the lead role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2013 film. However, things changed after a meeting with the director.
“I don’t remember much from that time. I just know that she went to his office next door when I was with my patients in my clinic. When she came back, she said that I am only doing a song in Ram-Leela. I asked her – What happened? She said – I think that’s better,” Madhu shared.
She added that Priyanka must have taken the decision after careful thought. “She might have taken a well-thought decision. They might have had some lovely discussions that she agreed for something like this because they are still friends,” she said.
PeeCee Did Mary Kom For Sanjay Leela Bhansali
Despite missing out on the lead role, Priyanka and Bhansali remained on good terms. He suggested her to do Mary Kom later, where she played the titular role.
Madhu said, “She doesn’t keep that revenge attitude. She did the film because Sanjay asked her to.”
In 2015, Priyanka worked with Bhansali again in Bajirao Mastani. She played Kashibai and shared screen space with Deepika and Ranveer Singh.
