Producer Dinesh Vijan Dismisses ‘South Takeover’ Claims, Reminds Of MASSIVE Bollywood Blockbusters Pathaan, Jawan, Animal, Gadar 2 & Stree 2

Dinesh Vijan believes Bollywod is doing well. He highlights recent success with blockbusters like Pathaan, Jawan, Animal, Stree 2.

The Bollywood vs South Indian cinema debate has become a hot topic, with industry veterans sharing their views. Producer Dinesh Vijan (known for films like Stree and its sequel) has now dismissed claims of South Indian cinema overshadowing Bollywood.

Dinesh Vijan Rejects ‘South Takeover’ Claims

In an interview with The Economic Times, Vijan expressed his thoughts and said, “I don’t believe there’s a ‘takeover’ by southern cinema. Since the pandemic, the Hindi film industry has seen remarkable successes, with films such as Animal, Gadar 2, Pathaan, Jawan, and Stree 2 achieving box office collections of Rs. 500-600 crore in India. This clearly shows that the Hindi film industry is performing as well as its southern counterpart.”

Vijan stressed the importance of delivering fresh and engaging content. He pointed to Bollywood’s recent hits as evidence of the industry’s ability to evolve and connect with audiences. “It’s about giving audiences fresh and unique content,” he said.

The producer also called for unity in Indian cinema, stating that categorising films by region is unnecessary. He suggested that both Hindi and South Indian films should be seen as part of one Indian film industry, driven by quality storytelling that transcends boundaries.

Naga Vamsi’s Shocking Statements That Stirred Up The Debate

This comes after a discussion at the Galatta Plus Mega Pan-India Producers’ Round Table 2024, where producer Naga Vamsi claimed South Indian blockbusters like RRR and Baahubali had reshaped Bollywood’s approach to mass entertainment. Vamsi argued that Bollywood once catered to specific regions like Bandra and Juhu, while South Indian cinema has managed to reach broader audiences.

Veteran producer Boney Kapoor offered a different perspective, denying any “takeover” by South cinema. He highlighted Bollywood’s enduring influence, mentioning South stars like Allu Arjun’s admiration for Amitabh Bachchan.

Kapoor added, “Audiences are drawn to quality content, whether it’s from Telugu, Tamil, or Hindi cinema.” He also pointed out the growing success of Marathi films, some of which have crossed the Rs. 100 crore milestone.
