Producer Sandeep Singh is now about to make a biopic of controversial freedom fighter Veer Savarkar.
On the 138th birth anniversary of Veer Savarkar today, producers Sandeep Singh and Amit B Wadhwani announced this film, titled Swatantra Veer Savarkar with a teaser poster. Interestingly, Sandeep and Amit, both had produced Narendra Modi’s biopic before this.
The film will be directed by Mahesh Manjrekar and written by Rishi Virmani and Mahesh Manjrekar.
Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, commonly known as Swatantryaveer Savarkar, was an Indian independence activist and politician who formulated the Hindu nationalist philosophy of Hindutva. He was a leading personality in the Hindu Mahasabha.
The director Mahesh Manjrekar said in a statement, “I have always been fascinated by the life and times of Veer Savarkar. I believe he is a man who has not got his right in history. The reality is that he continues to expose such strong emotions that may have influenced many people. As a director I know it will be a challenge, but I want to play it.”
Producer Sandeep Singh said, “As much as Veer Savarkar is honored, he is criticized equally. His image is polarised to this day. But it seems that people do not know the full truth about him. No one can deny that he was an important part of our freedom struggle. Our effort is to give a glimpse of his life and journey.”
Producer Amit B Wadhwani says, “I am delighted that we are making a film that throws light on the work of a freedom fighter. There is an important part about which everyone should be told. Unfortunately, his wrong image has been revealed. ”
The film will go on floors, as soon as it’s allowed to shoot films and corona related restrictions are lifted. It will be shot in London, Andaman and various locales of Maharashtra.
