As reported last night, Pushpa 2 has been caught in a show-sharing dispute with the upcoming Christmas release Baby John. A long meeting took place on Thursday (December 19) between Anil Thadani’s AA Films (which distributes Allu Arjun starrer) and PVR Inox Pictures( who are backing Baby John). The talks brought some temporary relief to the situation, but the issue isn’t fully resolved.
Pushpa 2 Tickets Allowed To Be Sold Only Till Dec 22
Sources say the talks stretched past midnight, allowing advance bookings for Pushpa 2: The Rule to reopen. However, tickets can only be sold until Sunday (December 22). After that, the schedule for this film is uncertain, especially with Baby John releasing on Wednesday (December 25).
A close source told Bollywood Hungama, “Both parties have decided to take a pause. The issues aren’t solved but nevertheless, Pushpa 2 – The Rule’s advance booking for the third weekend was opened after midnight,”
The source added, “It is yet to be seen how the showcasing plays out for Monday, December 23, and Tuesday, December 24, and of course, once Baby John releases.”
Another source revealed that many PVR Inox cinemas have not given enough shows to Pushpa 2 – The Rule. For example, PVR Juhu has allocated 11 shows to Mufasa: The Lion King while Pushpa 2 is scheduled for only 7 shows a day. At PVR Oberoi Mall Goregaon, Allu Arjun’s film gets 8 shows, whereas Mufasa gets 12. Despite the high demand for Pushpa 2, it should ideally have more shows. Other multiplex chains have given equal showings to both films, with Pushpa 2 even getting more shows in some locations.
About The Show-Sharing Issue
The issue escalated when Anil Thadani insisted that Pushpa 2 – The Rule be shown equally across multiplexes. Thadani reportedly told exhibitors they must commit in writing to keep an equal number of shows for the film from December 20 to December 26. Without this written confirmation, the release order (RO) for the film would not be issued, meaning the film’s screenings could be cancelled for the weekend.
A source explained, “Anil Thadani asked all exhibitors to give in writing that this condition has to be met. If they don’t do so, theatres will not be able to play Pushpa 2 – The Rule over this weekend.”
Not all multiplexes have agreed to the show-sharing conditions. In some places, other films have taken priority over Pushpa 2: The Rule. While PVR Inox multiplexes are expected to sell tickets for Pushpa 2 this weekend, the long-term showcasing plans are still being negotiated.
For fans of Allu Arjun, the coming days will reveal how much screen time Pushpa 2: The Rule will get. Meanwhile, advance bookings for Baby John are still not open, leaving its box office performance uncertain.
