Manish Shah, the distributor of the Hindi version of Pushpa: The Rise, is back in the production scene with Kanchana 4. Known for bringing dubbed films to the Hindi market, Shah is set to produce the latest film in the Kanchana horror-comedy series, starring Raghava Lawrence, Pooja Hegde, and Nora Fatehi.
Manish Shah To Produce Kanchana 4
Shah played a crucial role in the success of Pushpa: The Rise in the North, helping secure its release in cinemas. His company Goldmine Telefilms revolutionised the satellite and YouTube release of dubbed films and made it a significant player in the industry. Now, with Kanchana 4, Shah is continuing his mission to produce films with wide appeal.
The Kanchana series has built a strong fanbase, thanks to its unique blend of horror and comedy. The previous films, including the Hindi-dubbed versions, have been hits both in cinemas and on television. The 2020 remake of the original Kanchana (2011), titled Laxmmi and starring Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani, was a major success as well.
Shah Plans To Follow The Strict 8-Week OTT Release Rule For It
In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Shah discussed the ongoing challenges in the film industry concerning OTT release windows. Before the pandemic, a rule required films to wait 56 days before streaming online. After the lockdown, this rule was relaxed, and filmmakers started releasing their films on OTT after just four weeks. This caused friction with major cinema chains like PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis, who rejected films with early OTT releases.
Shah pointed out that while Telugu filmmakers stuck to the eight-week window, many Tamil filmmakers chose the four-week option, which affected their films’ performance in the Hindi market.
He explained, “The issue is that Tamil filmmakers agree to the four-week window with the OTT platforms. They do so because they want the money upfront. They are not mentally prepared for the fact that if they receive Rs. 20 crores less from OTT, they can collect the same amount or even more from theatres. But sadly, they don’t have that confidence.”
In response to this trend, Shah has decided to follow the eight-week window for Kanchana 4. He confirmed, “We’ll make sure that Kanchana 4 arrives on a streaming giant only after 57 days in cinemas. In other words, it’ll be released in all the national chains. After 2.0 (2018), it will be the first Tamil film to achieve this feat.”
