Kangana Ranaut may be returning to one of the most loved roles of her career, with the sequel to Queen now moving forward under a title that appears to be locking into place. Queen Forever has emerged as the frontrunner for the film, marking the clearest sign yet that the makers are ready to revisit Rani’s world more than a decade after the original became a breakout success.
Why Queen Forever Is Emerging As The Sequel’s Chosen Name
Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that Queen Forever is the title currently leading the race for the sequel, with a source close to the development saying, “The makers had several options for the film’s title and the one that has really caught their eye is Queen Forever. The makers feel Queen Forever is the apt title and that it suits the film’s subject.”
The sequel is expected to be directed by Vikas Bahl, who also helmed the original, while Amit Chandrra is attached as producer through Trigger Happy Studios. The new chapter is set to take Rani across Indian cities instead of an overseas trip, while retaining the emotional self-discovery thread that made Queen such a resonant crowd-pleaser in the first place.
Why Queen Still Holds Its Ground
Released in 2014, Queen starred Kangana Ranaut alongside Rajkummar Rao, Lisa Haydon and Nayani Dixit. Directed by Vikas Bahl, the comedy-drama followed a young Delhi woman who chose to go on her honeymoon alone after her wedding was called off. What began as a modest opener turned into one of the year’s biggest word-of-mouth triumphs.
The film’s hold has lasted far beyond its theatrical run. Queen finished with around Rs 61 crore net in India and quickly became a benchmark for character-led Hindi films that combined humour with emotional honesty. That lasting affection is also what makes this sequel more than just another franchise extension.
Why Returning To Rani Matters Now For Kangana Ranaut
For Ranaut, a return to Rani arrives at a particularly telling moment. In the last few years, her film choices have moved through very different spaces, from the horror-comedy Chandramukhi 2 and the action drama Tejas, both released in 2023, to Emergency in 2025, a politically charged project she also directed. The range has been undeniable, but Queen remains the role most closely tied to her mainstream emotional connect with audiences.
That is what gives Queen Forever a special pull within her current lineup. She is also attached to Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, which is in production, and the announced Hollywood film Blessed Be the Evil. Yet among those titles, the prospect of stepping back into Rani’s shoes carries a different kind of weight, because it reconnects her with a character whose vulnerability, wit and freedom became part of modern Bollywood memory.
