Raashi Khanna has come on board Anees Bazmee’s upcoming film starring Akshay Kumar, in which she will be seen as the actor’s ex girlfriend. The yet to be titled project also features Vidya Balan, who will play Akshay’s wife, setting up a relationship dynamic that leans into Bazmee’s trademark mix of humour and domestic chaos. The film is officially a remake of the Telugu movie Sankranthiki Vastunaam, and the casting signals a mainstream Hindi adaptation built around a high profile trio.
Raashi Khanna Cast As Akshay Kumar’s Ex Girlfriend
With Raashi Khanna stepping into the ex girlfriend role opposite Akshay Kumar, the remake appears to be positioning her as a key driver of conflict and comedy rather than a brief cameo. Khanna, who has steadily expanded her Hindi slate in recent years alongside her work in South cinema, now enters a commercial space that traditionally thrives on high energy ensemble interplay.
In the original Telugu narrative template, the romance and mistaken identity style complications are central to the entertainment value, and the Hindi version seems set to retain that backbone while tailoring character beats for a wider pan India audience.
Vidya Balan To Play Akshay Kumar’s Wife In The Remake
Vidya Balan’s casting as Akshay Kumar’s wife adds significant weight to the film’s emotional and comedic balance. Balan has long been known for bringing sharp timing and grounded presence to larger than life scripts, and her role as the wife character suggests the story will explore the push and pull between past and present relationships.
Anees Bazmee’s recent work has often relied on strong character equations as much as situational humour, and the combination of Balan and Khanna around Akshay sets up an engaging triangle that can deliver both laugh out loud confusion and relatable domestic stakes.
Anees Bazmee Brings Sankranthi Ki Vastunaam To Hindi Cinema
The film’s confirmation as a remake of the Telugu movie Sankranthi Ki Vastunaam places it within the continuing trend of adapting successful regional entertainers for Hindi audiences. Bazmee, a seasoned director in the comedy space, is expected to reshape the narrative with his signature pacing, ensemble staging, and heightened set pieces.
While details around the title, supporting cast, music and release timeline are still under wraps, the casting announcement alone positions the project as one of the more promising commercial packages in development. With Akshay Kumar leading the film, and Raashi Khanna and Vidya Balan anchoring the central relationship arcs, the remake has the ingredients for a broad, family friendly theatrical entertainer.
