Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Release Date Pushes Again: April 30 Premiere Now Unlikely Amid CBFC Row

Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan is facing another release date setback, extending the wait for what is being positioned as the star’s final film before his full time political plunge. After months of uncertainty around certification, the April 30 timeline is now being viewed as increasingly unrealistic, with overseas distribution messaging adding fresh clarity about what audiences should expect next.

For Vijay fans, the delay lands at a time when every update around Jana Nayagan carries extra weight, not just as a major Tamil film event but also as a key milestone in his career as he prepares to focus on public life.

Jana Nayagan Release Delayed As Distributor Issues Update

The latest confirmation has come from Canadian distributor York Cinemas, which posted an official notice on X stating, “Dear Patrons, Please note that the movie Jana Nayagan will not be releasing before April 30th. If you have any pending tickets and your refund has not yet been processed, kindly contact our theatres to have it arranged at the earliest.”

The notice further added, “All our loyal membership holders will receive priority booking access once the new release date is confirmed. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support.”

While the statement does not announce a new date, it clearly indicates that audiences should not expect Jana Nayagan to arrive before April 30, effectively pushing the release window beyond what many had been anticipating.

CBFC Certification Dispute Keeps Vijay’s Film In Limbo

A major reason the film’s release continues to shift is its ongoing Central Board of Film Certification process and the legal back and forth that followed. Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled to release on January 9, but certification issues stalled the film’s rollout.

The matter reached the Madras High Court, where a division bench on January 27 set aside an earlier order that had directed the CBFC to certify the film, noting that the board should have had time to file its counter. In February, KVN Productions withdrew its petition seeking a direction to the CBFC to grant a censor certificate, clearing the way for a revising committee to examine the film.

As things stand, Jana Nayagan remains uncertified, and neither the CBFC nor the makers have issued a fresh statement on when the process will be completed.

Elections Timing Adds Another Layer To The Release Strategy

With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections beginning in April and Vijay expected to contest via Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, the timing of Jana Nayagan has become even more sensitive. Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, the film stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani.

Until an official certification and a confirmed new date arrive, Jana Nayagan remains one of the most closely watched releases on the Tamil cinema calendar.
