Karan Johar Mounts Radha Krishna Epic, Brings Avane Srimannarayana Director Sachin Ravi On Board

After shaping some of Hindi cinema’s most mounted romances and family dramas, Karan Johar is now turning to one of Indian mythology’s most enduring love stories. Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that Dharma Productions is developing Radha Krishna, with Avane Srimannarayana director Sachin Ravi attached to write and direct the film.

The project marks a striking creative shift for Johar and his banner. While Dharma has long been associated with glossy entertainers and relationship-led dramas, Radha Krishna takes the studio into the historical-devotional space, combining mythology, emotion and visual grandeur on a new storytelling canvas.

Film In Advanced Development

Karan Johar has been keen to bring Radha Krishna to the screen for a long time, and the project finally appears to have found the script that aligns with the scale and emotional weight of one of Indian scripture’s most enduring love stories. The film is being written and directed by Sachin Ravi for Dharma Productions and is already in an advanced stage of development.

That places the film well beyond a basic idea stage and firmly into active creative shaping behind the scenes. Casting details remain under wraps, but the subject and Dharma’s involvement already position it as one of the most closely watched Hindi film projects currently in development.

The Story Dharma Wants To Tell

The film will trace Krishna’s journey from birth to the killing of Kansa, while placing the divine bond between Radha and Krishna at the emotional centre of the narrative. That approach suggests Radha Krishna is being designed not simply as a mythological retelling, but as a sweeping romantic epic shaped by devotion, longing, drama and tragedy.

The storytelling choice is especially notable because it aligns the scale of a mythological spectacle with the emotional intensity that has long defined Johar’s strongest creative instincts as a producer.

Why Sachin Ravi Is An Interesting Choice

Sachin Ravi made his directorial debut with Avane Srimannarayana, the 2019 Kannada fantasy adventure headlined by Rakshit Shetty. The film blended folklore, stylised world-building and humour, and it developed a strong identity for its visual ambition. Before turning director, Ravi also worked as an editor on Kannada titles such as Kirik Party, Ulidavaru Kandanthe and Simple Agi Ondh Love Story.

That filmography makes him an especially compelling choice for Radha Krishna, a subject that calls for both visual scale and emotional texture in equal measure.

Radha Krishna And Dharma Productions

Radha Krishna is being developed under Dharma Productions, the banner founded by Yash Johar and now led by Karan Johar. The studio has not officially announced the film yet, and no cast has been revealed so far. For now, attention will remain on when Dharma formalises the project and which actors are eventually chosen to headline this mythological romance.
