Ajay Devgn is back as the tough IRS officer Amay Patnaik in Raid 2. The new trailer dropped today, and while it looks sleek and intense, it hasn’t fully impressed.
The team launched the trailer in Mumbai on Tuesday. It opens with Ajay taking on a new mission – this time against a powerful and corrupt politician, played by Riteish Deshmukh. The trailer teases a fiery clash between the two, filled with tension, drama and power-packed moments.
Raid 2 Trailer Hints At Polished Sequel That Plays It Safe With Familiar Beats
Visually, the trailer looks top-notch. From courtroom showdowns to raid team action, the production feels stylish and crisp. But the story feels too close to the first Raid. The themes of corruption, justice, and political power return, but they don’t feel fresh anymore.
These themes are still important, no doubt. But fans expected the sequel to push things forward. Instead, Raid 2 feels like a polished re-run of the original.
Ajay brings his usual intensity to the role. He plays the upright officer with the same strong presence. But his character seems stuck in time. There’s no sign of growth or change from what we saw in the first film.
Riteish Deshmukh’s entry adds some buzz. He steps into the villain’s shoes for the first time in a while. But even his role feels like a repeat of the ‘corrupt politician’ stereotype. It’s a role we’ve seen too many times before.

Ajay Devgn Starrer Misses The Thrill?
Some viewers also feel the trailer lacks a proper buildup. Even with its high-stakes vibe, the scenes don’t build the tension as expected. The pacing feels uneven, which leads to a lukewarm impact overall.
On the bright side, the production team is solid. Director Raj Kumar Gupta returns to lead the film. Bhushan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak, and Krishan Kumar have produced it. Backed by T-Series and Panorama Studios, Raid 2 has scale and style.
The film hits cinemas on May 1. It picks up after the events of Raid (2018), which followed an honest income tax officer in Lucknow, fighting against the corrupt elite.
This time, the makers aim to keep the same spirit alive. But the trailer shows more of the same, rather than raising the bar. Whether the film can surprise audiences where the trailer didn’t – that remains to be seen.
