Raj Thackeray’s MNS Opposes Fawad Khan’s Abir Gulaal After Teaser Drops, Warns To Halt Release In Maharashtra: ‘It Features A Pakistani Actor’

Abir Gulaal faces controversy as MNS threatens to block its release in Maharashtra over Fawad Khan’s involvement.

The teaser of Abir Gulaal dropped yesterday, confirming Fawad Khan’s big return to Bollywood. Fans were thrilled to see him back, but the excitement quickly turned into controversy.

A day after the teaser launch, Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) strongly opposed the film and threatened to block its release in Maharashtra.

MNS Warns Against The Release Of Abir Gulaal

MNS leader Ameya Khopkar made it clear that his party would not allow Abir Gulaal to be released in Maharashtra.

Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, he said, “We only learned about this film’s release today when the makers announced it. But we are making it clear that we will not allow this film to release in Maharashtra because it features a Pakistani actor. Under no circumstances will we permit such films to be released in the state. We are gathering more information about the film and will soon issue a full statement.”

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam also reacted to the teaser. He said, “There is widespread hatred for Pakistan in India. When a Pakistani film is released, Indian audiences usually don’t prefer watching it. Even if some people watch out of curiosity, Pakistani artists have never achieved widespread success in India.”

He urged the government to take a clear stance on whether Pakistani actors should be allowed to work in India.

Film’s Teaser Was Dropped Yesterday

The teaser of Abir Gulaal is all about romance and charm. It opens with Fawad Khan singing “Kuch Na Kaho” while sitting in his car. Vaani Kapoor is seen next to him. She asks, “Abir Singh, flirt kar rahe ho?”

Fawad smirks and replies, “Do you want me to?” Their chemistry amid rain-soaked visuals has left fans swooning.

Directed by Aarti S. Bagdi, Abir Gulaal also features Lisa Haydon, Riddhi Dogra, Farida Jalal, Soni Razdan, Parmeet Sethi, Rahul Vora, Amrit Sandhu, Sujoy De, and Dev Agrawal.

Amit Trivedi has composed the film’s music. The film has been produced by Vivek B. Agrawal, Avantika Hari, Rakesh Sippy, and Firuzi Khan. It is set to release on May 9 and clash with Rajkummar Rao’s Bhool Chuk Maaf. However, with the rising controversy, its fate in Maharashtra remains uncertain.
