Pakistani actor Fawad Khan is all set to make his comeback in Bollywood after several years with the upcoming romantic drama Abir Gulaal. The movie also stars Vaani Kapoor and has created quite a buzz after the release of its teaser on Tuesday. Makers have finally confirmed the film’s release on May 9, 2025.
Abir Gulaal Teaser Drops
The teaser gives us a glimpse of the sizzling chemistry between Fawad and Vaani. It starts with the question, “When was the last time you fell in love?” and quickly shifts to a scene where Fawad and Vaani are sitting in a car amid heavy rain.
As the rain pours down, Fawad serenades Vaani with the classic Bollywood song “Kuch Na Kaho” from 1942: A Love Story. His voice fills the car, and Vaani can’t help but give him a curious look.
She teasingly asks, “Abir Singh. Flirt kar rahe ho?” With a twinkle in his eye, Fawad responds, “Do you want me to?” The moment is playful, flirty, and full of promise.
Sharing the teaser, makers wrote, “The wait is over! Bringing love back to the big screen with Abir Gulaal and @fawadkhan81. A Richer lens film @aricherlens. See you in the cinemas on 9th May!”
About Abir Gulaal
Directed by Aarti S Bagdi, Abir Gulaal explores the journey of two people who unintentionally help each other heal. As their connection deepens, love blooms unexpectedly. The film also features Ridhi Dogra in a pivotal role.
Abir Gulaal is produced by Indian Stories Limited and A Richer Lens Entertainment in association with Aarjay Pictures. Amit Trivedi has composed the music for the film.
The movie’s release is expected to clash with Rajkummar Rao’s Bhool Chuk Maaf at the box office.
Fawad’s Return To Bollywood
Fawad Khan’s return to Indian cinema is particularly significant, given the long-standing tension between India and Pakistan in the film industry. Following the 2016 Uri terror attack, there was an unofficial ban on Pakistani artists working in India.
The actor who starred in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil at the time faced intense backlash. The Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) passed a resolution that prevented collaboration with Pakistani artists.
However, in 2023, the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition to officially ban Pakistani artists, stating that arts and culture rise above nationalities and can foster peace and unity.
