Just days before Dhurandhar The Revenge hits theatres on March 19, 2026, an unexpected voice added fresh fuel to the franchise buzz. Senior journalist and political commentator Rajdeep Sardesai shared a detailed reaction after watching Dhurandhar (Part 1), calling it a smart, rage-fuelled spy thriller that captures the current mood, while also making it clear that its writing does not match the legendary benchmark of Sholay.
Sardesai posted his thoughts on X on March 15, 2026, and his review quickly travelled beyond political timelines into film chatter, especially because it came right as audiences are gearing up for the sequel.
What Rajdeep Sardesai Said About Dhurandhar
In his post, Sardesai wrote, “FINALLY saw Dhurandhar today (part 1). My verdict? Very very clever film that captures the mood of the times. Aditya Dhar is a very skilful director and the excessive violence at times is matched by a sense of righteous rage. While the characters conform to the macho imagery of a spy thriller (from @RanveerOfficial to Akshaye to Sanjay Dutt) the show stealer for me was Rakesh Bedi as the sleazy Pakistani politician. The scripting and dialogue lacks the genius of a Sholay (the ultimate blockbuster of my generation) but end of the day a paisa vasool film for those who like plenty of gore on their entertainment plate”.
It is that Sholay comparison that stands out, not as a takedown but as a pointed measuring stick. Sardesai credits the film’s mood, scale and directorial control, but draws a line at calling it a dialogue driven classic. At the same time, he singles out Rakesh Bedi’s turn as the “sleazy Pakistani politician” as his personal show-stealer, a shoutout that rarely dominates discourse around big, star-led action franchises.
Dhurandhar The Revenge Releases March 19
Dhurandhar The Revenge, written and directed by Aditya Dhar, continues the story after the first film’s cliffhanger. Ranveer Singh returns as Hamza Ali Mazari, whose original identity is Jaskirat Singh Rangi. The sequel also brings back Sanjay Dutt as SP Chaudhary Aslam, Arjun Rampal as Major Iqbal, R. Madhavan as Ajay Sanyal, and Sara Arjun as Yalina Jamali.
Backed by Jio Studios and B62 Studios, the film is set for a global theatrical release on March 19, 2026, aligning with Gudi Padwa, Ugadi, and Eid. It is also releasing in multiple languages, including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.
Ranveer Singh’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Ranveer Singh’s most recent releases over the past few years have showcased sharp genre pivots, from Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus (2022) to the family romance Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023), co-starring Alia Bhatt and directed by Karan Johar, and Singham Again (2024), where he returned as Sangram “Simmba” Bhalerao.
In 2025, blockbuster Dhurandhar arrived as his big-scale spy action outing and set up the franchise’s second chapter. Next, Singh headlines Dhurandhar The Revenge, releasing theatrically on March 19, 2026.
