Sidharth Malhotra And Karan Johar Set To Team Up Again For An Emotionally Charged Relationship Drama

Sidharth Malhotra looks ready to circle back to where his big screen journey began. On March 16, 2026, fresh chatter in industry circles pointed to the actor reuniting with mentor Karan Johar, with Dharma Productions gearing up for an emotionally driven relationship drama that is currently in advanced discussion stages.

The development is significant not just because it brings Malhotra back to the banner that launched him as a leading man in Student of the Year, but because it signals a pivot to a more intimate, character-forward space after his recent action outing Yodha in 2024.

The Latest Update On Sidharth Malhotra’s Dharma Project

The film is described as an emotionally charged drama centred on complex relationships, and is set to be directed by Sharan Sharma, who has previously helmed Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl (2020) and Mr & Mrs Mahi (2024).

A source is quoted as saying, “The studio is keen to collaborate with Sidharth again and feels that the subject suits his persona. He had liked the idea when it was shared with him last year. He gave a verbal go-ahead at the time, and wanted to read the script before committing formally. Now, it’s in the last stages of conversation.”

If the discussions convert into a formal commitment, the film is expected to go on floors in summer 2026, with Mumbai earmarked as the primary shooting location.

While the makers are staying tight-lipped on casting beyond Malhotra, the director choice suggests Dharma is aiming for a grounded, emotional narrative with strong character arcs rather than a high-concept spectacle.

Sidharth Malhotra’s Recent And Upcoming Work

Over the last few years, Malhotra has balanced big-screen outings with a notable OTT presence. He starred in Mission Majnu (2023) on Netflix, followed by the theatrical releases Thank God (2022) and Yodha (2024). On the series front, he headlined the Amazon Prime Video action series Indian Police Force (2024).

Looking ahead, Malhotra also has the folk thriller Vvan, co-starring Tamannaah Bhatia, which has been announced as his next major film. If the Dharma relationship drama comes together on schedule, it will add a distinctly different genre note to his line-up, placing him back in the kind of emotionally driven storytelling that first made audiences sit up and take notice.
