Rajkummar Rao Joins Shoojit Sircar’s Next: A Witty Satirical Comedy In The Works
Rajkummar Rao is officially signed on for Shoojit Sircar‘s next project, which is said to be a witty and enervating satirical comedy. This untitled film marks their first collaboration together and is set to start filming in the second half of 2025.
Shoojit Sircar Switches Up Genres
After the lacklustre box-office performance of his recent film, I Want To Talk, Shoojit Sircar returns to the director’s chair with ambition after successfully exploring various genres with Piku, October, Vicky Donor, and Sardar Udham.
This outing will be a two-hero comedy and will feature Shoojit Sircar’s range of satirical elements. People close to the director commented, “He has found a sharp, relevant concept and the right actor in Rajkummar Rao.” An insider commented, “Rajkummar and Shoojit have spoken about doing something together for a while. This film has the right energy, as Raj liked the script and committed to doing a film towards the end of 2025.”
Parallel Lead Cast Not Yet Finalised
Rajkummar has been signed onto the project, and now the casting director is looking for a co-lead. The source has stated that “Shoojit is specific – he needs an actor who has comic timing, some credibility and is collaborative. Hero-heroine duos are so fragile, and there has to be chemistry between the two of them. His wavelength with Rajkummar is specific, and there needs to be that kind of comfort with the second actor.”
The film is expected to be humorous but with some serious observational satire, something that it is expected that both Shoojit and Rajkummar have managed in the past as individuals. Once the co-lead is confirmed, they should be able to draft the final schedule.
Rajkummar Rao’s Busy Schedule
In the meantime, Rajkummar Rao is balancing multiple projects. He is waiting for the release of Bhool Chuk Maaf from producer Dinesh Vijan and filming two of his home productions that are set to be direct-to-Netflix releases. Known for balancing commercial cinema with more content-driven cinema, the actor seems to be carrying that on with this Sircar project.
