Ranbir Kapoor And Yash To Have Minimal Shared Screen Time In Ramayana: Story & Scheduling Explained

Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Raavan but their characters won’t share much screen time. Find out the creative and scheduling reasons behind this choice.

Underneath the backing of producer Namit Malhotra, Ramayana is arguably the most awaited spectacle in cinema for a while. With a talented cast featuring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Yash as Raavan and Sai Pallavi and Sunny Deol, it is expected to have spectacular visual effects, stunning sets and retell the epic in a grand fashion.

Although fans may have expected to see Ranbir Kapoor and Yash together, it may surprise them to know that the two characters will barely come together in Ramayana.

Staying True to the Story

“Narratively, staying true to the original Valmiki Ramayana means that Lord Ram and Raavan do not meet for most of the story,” a source explains. “The two characters will be on separate journeys until the climax of the film when they meet for the first time at the battle of Lanka.”

The creators have added narrative depth, allowing each of the character arcs, Ranbir’s dharma and Yash’s ego and power, to develop without overlapping and build a nice tension leading to their final showdown.

Scheduling and Production Constraints

There are certainly some scheduling issues with Yash’s screen time with Sai Pallavi (Sita) and Sunny Deol (Hanuman). It is not clear how much screen time Ranbir Kapoor will have with other leads, but he has commitments to Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s Love & War, and the unconventional look he has for that film has made him unavailable.

In addition to these scheduling issues, Ranbir has also completed his portions, and Yash would have only started filming after going to Mahakal Temple in Ujjain in early May. The film is on big sets and will be shot as a two-part film for a Diwali 2026 and Diwali 2027 release.

A Stage of Narrative in a Star-Driven Film

At a time when big star films want to force joint scenes to build hype, Ramayana is about restraint and authenticity of storytelling vs. pandering to their fans, which can make for an immersive and emotionally intense cinematic experience that embodies the classic substance of the epic.

A Great Dream Project

The film Ramayana, produced by Namit Malhotra and featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash, along with a number of major releases, intends to raise the standard for Indian mythological cinema in terms of scale, performance, and cinematic experience.

Box Office Worldwide Verdict

Ramayana is poised to be a mythological epic success story when one considers narrative values and production values. As it will surprise some viewers that Ranbir Kapoor and Yash are apart for a good portion of the film, the narrative vantage points deepen the story and make their eventual “clash” a highly anticipated cinematic moment.

With two parts releasing on back-to-back Diwalis, this is foreseen as being a festival blockbuster for years to come.
