Sourav Ganguly’s biopic is finally making progress and there’s a big update. The former Indian cricket captain has confirmed that Rajkummar Rao will play the titular role on screen.

For years, fans speculated about who would portray Ganguly, with names like Ranbir Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana in the mix. Now, Ganguly has put an end to the rumours.
Speaking to the media, he said, “From what I’ve heard, Rajkummar Rao will play the role (the titular role)… but there are issues of dates… so it will take more than a year to hit the screens.”
While an official announcement is still pending, Ganguly’s confirmation of Rao’s casting has created a buzz. However, the film’s release is expected to take time due to scheduling challenges.

Known as the ‘Prince of Kolkata,’ Ganguly has made a lasting impact on Indian cricket. He played 113 Test matches and 311 ODIs, scoring over 18,500 international runs. Under his captaincy, India won 21 Test matches and reached the 2003 World Cup final.
After retiring in 2008, he took on key leadership roles, becoming the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and later the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). His influence on Indian cricket remains strong, making his biopic highly anticipated.
Rajkummar Rao: Upcoming Projects
Rajkummar Rao is gearing up for several projects. His next release Bhool Chuk Maaf features Wamiqa Gabbi and its teaser has already sparked interest with its unique time-loop storyline. He is also set to star in Maalik, which will hit cinemas on 20 June 2025.
Besides this, Rao has stepped into production. He recently launched his own production house with his wife, actress Patralekhaa. Their first project Toaster will feature Rao alongside Sanya Malhotra and will stream on Netflix.
