RRR, released on March 24, is an action-drama film starring Ram Charan, N.T. Rama Rao, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Olivia Morris. It’s directed by SS Rajamouli and has been reportedly made with a budget of 550 crores. Its song ‘Naatu Naatu’ and VFX in it got prominence from moviegoers.
The latest Tollywood news is that as of Sunday, it registered nearly 7,02,421 footfalls in the theaters. Its makers took to Twitter, stating, “The excitement surrounding #RRR in Japan continues to reach new heights! 🔥🌊#RRRMovie has had an incredible footfall of 702,421 as of Feb 26th, 2023. The film is currently running on 181 screens across the country. ❤️ #RRRinJapan.”

It has crossed ¥1.1b with approximately 700k footfalls. It remained in the top 10 Japan Box-office as of February 25, running across 181 theatres. Avatar 2 is reportedly out of top 25 (201 theatres). RRR released two months before Avatar 2 in Japan and is scoring better than Avatar 2.

It’s important to note that Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), PadMan (2018), 3 Idiots (2009), English Vinglish (2021) and Dangal (2016) are among other top-grossing films in Japan. RRR has been nominated for “Best Foreign Language Film” at the 46th Japan Academy Film Prize besides Hollywood films Spider-man: No Way Home, Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water and CODA. The winners will be declared on March 10.
