Ram Gopal Varma Unveils Mohit Suri Collaboration Set Against Dawood Ibrahim And Chota Rajan Split

A Ram Gopal Varma script directed by Mohit Suri was not a crossover many expected, and the first description of their new film already gives it a striking identity. In a post shared on September 13, 2026, Varma revealed that he has written the script and is co producing the project, with Suri directing. More importantly, he located the story inside one of the most combustible chapters in Mumbai’s underworld history, linking it to the Dawood Ibrahim and Chota Rajan split and the fallout that followed the 1993 serial blasts.

Ram Gopal Varma Shares The Film’s Backdrop

Varma introduced the collaboration with a direct note on how strongly he feels about Suri’s interpretation of the material. He wrote, “With regard to the film I am co producing, with @Mohit11481 directing.. yes, I wrote the script but he upped it far higher to an altogether another dimension..”

He then spelled out the world of the film in detail, writing, “The story is set in the times of the Dawood ibrahim, Chota Rajan split, due to a man called Sautya and how the Indian intelligence agencies were involved in the later proceedings which further led to some key events of the aftermath of the 93 serial blasts”

That description immediately places the project in a denser space than a routine gangster drama. The reference points are not just criminal rivalries, but the larger machinery surrounding them, which gives the film a wider historical and political sweep from the outset.

Mohit Suri’s Vision Becomes The Latest Talking Point

Varma was just as emphatic about what Suri has brought to the screenplay. He wrote, “For a story with this kind of a backdrop Mohit brought in a tremendous flair of his own brand of “from the heart characters, superlative emotional music and never before thought of ultra realistic action””

He took that thought even further with the most discussed part of the post: “Not that I am comparing us to them, but just as an example, I always wondered how it will be, if Coppola directed JAWS or Spielberg directed GODFATHER the contrast being the point. But their character mastery is the commonality and after seeing his vision for what I wrote, I believe that Mohit’s film will be much larger in scale than DHURANDHAR, and much more rooted than SATYA in its heart.”

The comparison is revealing. Varma is not simply praising Suri as a stylist, he is framing this film as a meeting point between his own fascination with hard edged crime worlds and Suri’s instinct for emotional storytelling, music, and heightened character drama.

Why This Collaboration Stands Out

The announcement matters because it brings together two filmmakers with sharply different signatures. Varma built his reputation on crime stories that reshaped the texture of the Hindi gangster film, while Suri is associated with emotionally charged narratives, strong musical sensibility, and accessible mainstream drama. That contrast appears to be exactly what excites Varma about the film.

For now, the makers have not announced the cast or a release timeline, but the early pitch already gives the project unusual weight. If the finished film delivers on the scale Varma is hinting at, this could become one of the more intriguing crime dramas now taking shape in Hindi cinema.
