With less than a week to go for its theatrical release, Ramayana has pulled off a feat that even major tentpoles rarely manage. The Ranbir Kapoor-led mythological epic has cleared the Central Board of Film Certification with a U certificate, and not a single cut or modification has been asked of the makers. For a film mounted on this scale, and one rooted in one of India’s most sacred and widely known epics, that is a notable development.
Clean U Certificate Marks A Rare Cbfc Milestone
Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that the Examining Committee cleared Ramayana without demanding any visual or audio cuts. Just as significantly, the board did not seek standard compliance insertions that often accompany censor certification, including title or credit changes in the film’s language format, or anti-drug disclaimers before the film and during the interval.
That clean pass becomes even more striking because recent high-profile films that were cleared without cuts still landed with stricter classifications. Ramayana, in contrast, has secured a full U certificate, meaning it is fit for universal viewing across age groups.
The censor certificate was handed to the makers on October 30, 2026, giving the film an important final clearance at a time when anticipation around the project is already running high.
Runtime Locked At 195 Minutes
The certification also confirms Ramayana’s final runtime at 195 minutes, which translates to 3 hours and 15 minutes. That places the film firmly in grand event-cinema territory, which aligns with the scale the team has been promising since the project’s first unveiling.
The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra. It stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. The project has been mounted as the first chapter of a two-part retelling, with the larger franchise vision already positioned as one of the most ambitious mythological adaptations attempted in Indian cinema.
Cast, Crew And Film Details
Ramayana is a Hindi-language epic mythological drama backed by Prime Focus Studios, with Malhotra steering the film’s large-scale vision and Tiwari directing. The story revisits the timeless conflict between Rama and Ravana, centering on duty, exile, devotion, and war, while packaging the saga as a modern theatrical spectacle for a global audience.
The film is scheduled for a worldwide release in early November 2026, with the second chapter planned for 2027. Its cast lineup and long runtime underline the makers’ confidence that this is meant to play as a full-scale big-screen event rather than a trimmed, fast-paced adaptation.
Ranbir Kapoor’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Ranbir Kapoor was last seen in Animal and Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, both released in 2023. Animal emerged as the biggest commercial success of his career, while Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar marked his return to the romantic comedy space. Before that, he headlined Brahmastra Part One: Shiva in 2022, another major theatrical release that reinforced his standing as a big-screen draw.
Now, Ramayana becomes his next theatrical release, and easily one of the most closely watched films of his career because of its scale, subject, and casting.
