Ravi Udyawar, the visual artist behind Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated Ramayana, has spent years designing the epic world of this mythological drama.
While the visual artist is preparing for the release of his directorial venture Yudhra, his work on Ramayana has become a topic of discussion.
Here’s What Ravi Udya Said On Designing Visuals For Ramayana
The film, starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi as Sita, began production in April after years of creative groundwork. Udyawar’s efforts in crafting the entire on-screen world for the film have been intense, to say the least.
“I have designed the film. I am an artist, and the makers wanted someone who could design it. So, I created the whole world and characters of Ramayana. But I can’t divulge more details. I would love to make more of such films because I love creating that world,” Udyawar revealed.
He’s clearly excited about this massive project, which is set to be a two-part saga, featuring an all-star cast including Yash as Ravana and Sunny Deol as Hanuman.
This isn’t Udyawar’s first big Bollywood project. The filmmaker previously directed the acclaimed Mom (2017), starring the legendary Sridevi.
When it comes to Ramayana, Udyawar believes the Indian audience is hungry for more stories rooted in their cultural heritage.
“People of the country are waiting for us to tell our stories. I am a geek of mythologies. All my films will have an undertone of that. The kids should be watching our fables and Panchatantra. The land that we come from has many more stories to offer,” he added.

In addition to Udyawar’s incredible work, Ramayana is generating a lot of buzz, thanks to Ranbir Kapoor, who was recommended for the role by actress Indira Krishnan.
She recently spoke about how Kapoor suggested her for a role in Ramayana after they worked together in Animal. “I did Animal with Ranbir Kapoor. After that, he recommended me for Ramayana. He’s a very grounded person and never shows any starry attitude on the set,” Krishnan shared.
She praised Ranbir’s humble and respectful nature, which has left a lasting impact on her.
For those unaware, Krishnan is reportedly playing the role of Kaushalya, Lord Ram’s mother, in the film.

Although an official release date hasn’t been set yet, the film is expected to hit theatres by late 2024 or early 2025. With an estimated budget of around $100 million, Ramayana is set to be one of the most expensive Bollywood productions ever.
Given the ambitious scale, fans can expect some seriously impressive visual effects, which will likely extend the post-production timeline.
