Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi are all set to play Lord Ram and Sita in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious project, Ramayana. The film, which will be made in three parts, is expected to go on floors in March 2024. However, before that, Ranbir Kapoor will be heading to Los Angeles for a special reason.
Ramayana, the epic project shoot to commence in Feb / March 2024
Sources close to the project have confirmed that Nitesh Tiwari is ready to start shooting his epic story in February/March 2024. “The entire world of Ramayana has been created by Nitesh Tiwari and the National Award-Winning Filmmaker is all set to take the film on floors in March next year. The world of Ramayana has been designed by Oscar Winning VFX company, DNEG, who is also producing this epic. The makers intend to introduce a new technology of filmmaking with Ramayana, and the entire test run of the shoot has been conducted multiple times. Right from 3D scans to look tests – all the aspects of pre-production have been concluded with the three leads – Ranbir, Sai, and Yash,” the source revealed to Pinkvilla.
Yash to join Ranbir, Sai Pallavi for Ramayana shoot in July
The film will also feature Yash as Ravana, who will join the shoot from July 2024. The actor, who rose to fame with his blockbuster KGF series, will be seen in a negative role for the first time. He will be joining after finishing a major part of his upcoming film, the Geetu Mohandas-directed Toxic. “Yash has an extended appearance in Ramayana: Part One, which is more of a story building of Ram and Sita with character introduction of Hanuman. The second part will chronicle the arc of Raavan’s character and the actor is excited to enter into this auspicious world of Nitesh Tiwari. Yash was bowled over by the visuals and the purity with which Nitesh intends to retell Ramayana to the audience today,” the source added. Ranbir to head to LA before the Ramayana shoot
Ranbir is expected to visit the LA office of DNEG, the VFX company, as part of the pre-production for Ramayana. “There is some tech rehearsal expected to take place in LA in January 2024 and RK will be off to the US for a couple of weeks. It’s essentially for pre-viz,” the source said.

A user on X posted a series of tweets about meeting Ranbir Kapoor at the airport. The actor talked about his upcoming project Ramayana, which is said to feature Sai Pallavi and Yash as Sita Ma and Ravana, respectively. The user’s first tweet said, “Standing ahead of Ranbir Kapoor in the immigration queue and talking about #Animal + his next crazy project wasn’t something I’d signed up for this Bombay trip. And what a lovely guy!”
The user followed up with another tweet, saying, “Woah, this blew up! Everyone asking, he said ‘Ramayana,’ goes on floor early summers. Not sure I should divulge anything more than that, but the star cast is frickin’ crazy… wow, #Bollywood is really taking it to the next level starting 2023.”

The first part of the Ramayana trilogy will release in the latter half of 2025, and will be the biggest Indian film of the year. The makers have approached Sunny Deol for the role of Hanuman, but the actor has not confirmed his participation yet. The casting for other important characters of Ramayana is underway.
