Ramayana: Yash CONFIRMS Playing Ravana in Ranbir Kapoor Starrer, Reveals Why It’s The Only Character He Prefers

Yash has confirmed that he will play Ravana in Ramayana, revealing it’s the only character he prefers in the film.

Yash has officially confirmed that he will be taking on the iconic role of Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s much-anticipated Ramayana, putting an end to the speculation that he had turned down the part.

Yash Reveals Why He Chose To Play Ravana In Ramayana

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the KGF star opened up about his decision and revealed why Ravana is the only character in the epic he would even consider playing. This confirmation has excited fans, especially with Ranbir Kapoor playing Lord Ram and Sai Pallavi portraying Sita.

Yash first got involved in the project after an inspiring conversation with Namit Malhotra, CEO of DNEG and Prime Focus, who introduced him to the idea.

According to Yash, Malhotra’s excitement for Ramayana and his vision for the film left a strong impression on him. Their shared perspective on how the film should be executed sealed the deal.

Yash shared, “Namit asked if I would be interested in playing Ravana. From that moment, I was hooked. If the character is treated like a character… if this doesn’t happen today, then the film won’t happen.”

Actor Calls It A ‘Fascinating’ Character

One of the most exciting aspects for Yash is how Ravana’s character is portrayed. He emphasised that it’s not just about playing a villain but bringing out the complexities of the character.

“It’s a very fascinating character. I wouldn’t have done it for any other reason. In Ramayana, if you had asked me, ‘Would you play any other character?’ Probably not. For me, Ravana is the most exciting character to play as an actor so I really like the shades and the nuances of the particular character,” Yash explained.

He added that as an actor, he is thrilled to explore Ravana’s depth and uniqueness.

Yash also revealed that he is not just acting in the film, but is also co-producing it. This decision stems from his belief that a project of this magnitude requires collaboration beyond personal stardom.

He noted, “To make a film with that kind of budget, you need those kinds of actors to come together and work for the project. It has to be beyond yourself and your stardom. We have to place the project and the vision first.”

With pre-production already underway, the excitement for Ramayana continues to grow. Earlier this year, a leaked photo of Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi in costume went viral, further fuelling anticipation.

Though an official announcement is still pending, the film is expected to release in 2025. Are you excited for it?
