Shahid Kapoor will play the role of the legendary warrior, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in Amit Rai’s next directorial project. The movie, which comes after the success of OMG 2 (Oh My God 2), will be produced by Wakaoo Films in partnership with Dil Raju and is set to start shooting in late 2024. The latest buzz in the tinsel town hints at another significant addition to the cast. Sources reveal that discussions are underway to rope in Rana Daggubati to portray the role of Aurangzeb in the period drama.

“Rana is Amit Rai’s top choice for the character of Aurangzeb. However, the final discussions will only begin once the logistics of the shoot are settled. Shahid is equally thrilled about the potential collaboration,” a close source informed Pinkvilla.
With the script finalised and pre-production in full swing, the team is gearing up to start filming by December. “The aim is to kickstart the project by the year’s end. The film intends to offer a fresh perspective to the period genre with its take on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Shahid is preparing intensely for the role and views it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” the source further disclosed.

The source also revealed that Amit Rai’s film will delve into a pivotal chapter of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s life. “While the film is centred around Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, it’s not a conventional biopic. The makers aim to infuse a thrilling element, focusing on a jailbreak executed by Chattrapathi Shivaji Maharaj in a bygone era,” the source added.
Over the years, Rana Daggubati has showcased his versatility as an actor, with his portrayal of Bhallaldeva in Bahubali being one of his standout performances. It remains to be seen what flavour he brings to the character of Aurangzeb.
