Ranbir Kapoor Locked For Dhoom 4, No Original Actors Returning As Franchise Set for Reboot; Filming Planned For Late 2025 Or Early 2026

Dhoom 4 is set for a reboot with Ranbir Kapoor in the lead. While no original actors will return, filming is planned for late 2025 or early 2026.

The Dhoom franchise is making a major comeback. Ranbir Kapoor is locked in as the lead for Dhoom 4, which is gearing up for a fresh reboot. This comes after years of speculation and excitement among fans. The film is currently in pre-production under the watchful eye of Aditya Chopra at Yash Raj Films (YRF).

The first Dhoom movie hit theatres in 2004. It starred John Abraham, Abhishek Bachchan, and Uday Chopra. Directed by Sanjay Gadhvi, it introduced a new style of storytelling in Indian action cinema. John’s portrayal of a grey character added a cool factor that captivated audiences.

The franchise only grew from there, with Hrithik Roshan stepping in as the villain in Dhoom 2 and Aamir Khan taking the lead in Dhoom 3. Now, let’s talk about the fourth and upcoming one.

Ranbir Kapoor Set To Lead Dhoom 4

A source close to the project told Pinkvilla, “Dhoom is a franchise dear to Aditya Chopra, and he has decided to reboot the franchise keeping in line with the current times.”

The script for Dhoom 4, subtitled Dhoom Reloaded, is being developed by Aditya Chopra and Vijay Krishna Acharya. The aim is to create an unmatched cinematic experience with the 4th instalment.

Ranbir Kapoor’s involvement has been in the works for some time. The source revealed, “The discussions with Ranbir have been going on for the longest time. He had always shown interest to be a part of Dhoom 4 on hearing the basic idea and is now finally confirmed to lead the franchise. Adi Chopra feels that RK is the ideal choice to carry forward the Dhoom legacy.”

This time, however, none of the original cast will reprise their roles. The film will feature two younger actors as cop buddies. The source noted that the core story is locked, and casting will commence shortly.

YRF Plans To Take It On Floors By 2025-End Or Early 2026

Dhoom 4 is not just another sequel; it aims to be a major cinematic event on a global scale. YRF plans to start filming in late 2025 or early 2026, once Ranbir wraps up his current projects, Love And War and Ramayana 1 & 2. Interestingly, Dhoom 4 will mark Ranbir’s 25th film. He is keen to make this milestone project special, followed by Animal Park.

As for the directorial team, YRF will appoint a director by mid-2025 to join the pre-production process. This reboot is part of a bigger plan, with YRF also developing other major films, including War 2, Alpha, Mardani 3, Pathaan 2, and Tiger vs. Pathaan.
