As per a source familiar with the matter, Jio Cinema has acquired the digital rights of the film Dunki for a staggering amount of Rs 155 crore. This deal sets a new record in the Indian film industry for a single-language film. The unprecedented agreement is attributed to the combined appeal of two prominent figures, Rajkumar Hirani and Shah Rukh Khan, whose reputations have contributed to the immense anticipation surrounding the film. With two of India’s most influential global icons collaborating on a project expected to make a significant impact worldwide, it is no surprise that this is the largest post-theatrical deal ever witnessed in the industry.
The strategic objective behind the partnership between Jio Cinema and the film Dunki is to expand the reach of the Jio Cinema platform globally. The team is actively working on developing an interface to make the app available worldwide, aiming to compete with streaming giant Netflix. The whopping amount of Rs 155 crores paid for the digital rights of Dunki reflects the tremendous value attributed to the collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani, underscoring their deserving reputation. Interestingly, the sum acquired for Dunki surpasses even the amount received by the Hindi version of the film Jawan from Netflix.
