Karan Johar is gearing up for the release of his upcoming directorial venture, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The film is coming as he celebrates his 25th year anniversary in Bollywood. It also marks his return to the director’s chair after 2016’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Amid all the brouhaha and buzz around its release, Karan has given some news about his next project.
A fan wrote a comment on Karan Johar’s social media handle and asked, “What’s ur next project? @karanjohar”. In response, Karan wrote: “An emotional actioner”. Last year on his 50th birthday, Karan expressed his interest in directing an action film. To this point, Karan has mostly made romantic and family drama films. So a jump to a completely different genre seems like a very exciting and daring move.
As a producer, however, Karan has produced several films in the action genre like Brothers, Agneepath, Sooryavanshi and Shershaah among others.

The trailer of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was launched on 4 July and it has received a lot of love from the audiences. In just four days, the trailer has garnered over 40 million views on YouTube. It also enjoyed the top spot on YouTube India’s trending videos list. The trailer is filled with drama and a lot of funny scenes involving Ranveer and Alia. In one scene, Ranveer’s character, who is a proper Punjabi munda, misunderstands the general election to the voting of Bigg Boss.
About Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani
Directed by Karan Johar, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is written by Ishita Moitra, Shashank Khaitan, and Sumit Roy. Produced by Karan’s Dharma Productions, the film stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi among others.
It tells the story of a Punjabi boy and a Bengali girl, from different socio-economic backgrounds, who fall in love. They then decide to step three months into each other’s family before deciding to get married. It is slated to release theatrically on 28 July.
