Red Chillies Entertainment Defends Aryan Khan’s The Bads Of Bollywood: Shah Rukh Khan’s Production House Says Show Is Not A Documentary On Cordelia Cruise Incident

Get ready for a major courtroom showdown involving one of the most talked-about Netflix series of the year. Shah Rukh Khan‘s production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, is fighting back against a defamation lawsuit filed by IRS officer Sameer Wankhede over Aryan Khan‘s directorial debut, The Ba****ds of Bollywood. This legal battle has now reached the Delhi High Court, and both sides are presenting strong arguments.

Sameer Wankhede has filed a Rs 2 crore defamation suit claiming that the show’s portrayal of a government officer is a veiled depiction of him. He believes the series has damaged his reputation, particularly in connection with the 2021 Cordelia Empress cruise drug case that involved Aryan Khan. Wankhede is demanding an interim injunction to stop the streaming of the series immediately.

Red Chillies Says It’s Satire And Fiction

Red Chillies Entertainment has strongly opposed this demand. Senior advocate Neeraj Kishan Kaul, representing the production house, presented a clear defense in court. He argued that while The Bastards of Bollywood draws inspiration from overzealous officers in the industry, it does not specifically depict or reference the Cordelia cruise incident.

Kaul stressed a very important point in his argument. He said, “Can satire and fiction coexist? There is no law that it cannot coexist. I may be partly inspired by real persons and stories, yet there can be disclaimers; no problem with two existing together.” This statement establishes that the show is a work of creative fiction and not a documentary.

The Series Is About Multiple Issues

The defense went on to explain the broader scope of the show. Kaul argued, “We are not looking at sensitive people; hurt is not ground for malice. Can you pick a stray instance, a passage here or there? The series is about 20 different issues. We do not show a documentary on the Cordelia cruise incident. I am inspired by overzealous officers. That is far from saying that this is the Cordelia cruise story.”

This is a crucial argument because it shows that The Ba****ds of Bollywood covers many different aspects of the entertainment industry. The show is not focused on one single incident or person. It reportedly explores various problems and stories from Bollywood, making it a satirical take on the entire industry rather than a targeted attack on any individual.

Public Officials Cannot Be Thin-Skinned

Kaul also made a strong statement about public officials and their portrayal in creative works. He said, “You cannot say that the person depicting ills in Bollywood cannot show overzealous officers. I cannot be responsible for what other people say. I am fully entitled to depict issues ailing Bollywood. Even if I am to project someone, a public official cannot be that thin-skinned.”

He concluded by stating, “Even if I portray you unjustly, it is still not the case. Every scene in this show is exaggerated. I am not ridiculing him or the emblem. I am talking about officials who have lofty ideas.” This defense highlights the creative freedom that filmmakers and content creators have when making satirical content.

What Happens Next

The next hearing in this case is scheduled for November 27, 2025. At that hearing, the court will hear arguments on behalf of Netflix. The streaming giant has not yet presented its side of the story, and their input will be very important in determining the outcome of this case.
