Remo D’Souza is back in the zone that made him one of Hindi cinema’s most distinctive dance filmmakers. The director, choreographer and producer has begun work on a new dance feature, with ABCD 3 among the titles under consideration as he develops the next chapter of a space he helped popularise for mainstream audiences.
Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that the film is being produced by Amit Chandrra of Trigger Happy Studios. D’Souza and his team have locked the core idea and are currently shaping the screenplay. The film is being designed for younger viewers, particularly audiences raised on viral dance culture, global performance formats and a far more evolved visual language around movement.
Remo D’Souza Reframes The Franchise For A New Generation
This creative direction marks an important shift. Rather than simply revisiting an old success formula, D’Souza is mounting a dance film that speaks directly to Gen Z and Gen Alpha sensibilities. That means sharper styling, a more contemporary rhythm and a world informed by how young viewers now consume dance on screens both big and small.
The timing also makes the move significant. D’Souza’s ABCD universe remains one of the few Hindi film brands built almost entirely around dance as both spectacle and emotion. The original ABCD: Any Body Can Dance, released in 2013, starred Prabhu Deva, Kay Kay Menon, Lauren Gottlieb, Dharmesh Yelande and Salman Yusuff Khan. It emerged as a semi hit and collected about Rs. 39.34 crore net in India, according to Box Office India.
Its 2015 sequel, ABCD 2, scaled the concept up with Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor and Prabhu Deva in the lead and turned into a super hit, earning about Rs. 103.58 crore net in India. Those numbers established the franchise as a commercially viable dance property, not just a niche experiment. That legacy gives the new film a strong foundation as D’Souza builds a fresh story for today’s audience.
Why The ABCD Brand Still Matters
What made the ABCD films connect was their ability to blend underdog spirit, performance pressure and crowd-pleasing choreography into a format that felt both aspirational and accessible. D’Souza’s storytelling in this space has always been rooted in teams, ambition and identity, with dance driving the drama rather than decorating it. If this new project carries that same emotional engine into a modern setting, it has the advantage of arriving with built-in recall and a clear genre identity.
Remo D’Souza’s Recent And Upcoming Work
D’Souza’s last theatrical directorial release was Street Dancer 3D in 2020, starring Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor, Prabhu Deva and Nora Fatehi. Before that, he directed Race 3 in 2018. In 2025, his dance drama Be Happy premiered on Amazon Prime Video, marking his most recent directorial outing. With this new film now in active development, D’Souza is firmly stepping back into the dance genre that carries his strongest creative signature.
