Varun Dhawan and Mrunal Thakur’s upcoming romantic comedy, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, will be directed by David Dhawan. The film was initially set to begin filming in October 2024. However, the schedule has been pushed to November due to David Dhawan’s health issues.
The filmmaker, known for his comedic hits like Coolie No 1 and Kunwara, has been unwell recently & even required hospitalisation.
Varun Dhawan Decided To Push The Shoot Of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, David Dhawan shared that his son, Varun, was the one who insisted on postponing the shoot.
He said, “We’ll shoot in Goa and on a set in Mumbai. I have not been keeping well and I was also hospitalised. My son refused to shoot with me. He told me, ‘Get well and then we’ll shoot’. He was right. Hence, I will not shoot in October. I had the dates but I declined (to take the film on floors)”
Despite having the dates available, David Dhawan chose to delay production, prioritising his health. The film will now kick off on November 6.
This Is 46th Film For David Dhawan As Director
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai marks David Dhawan’s 46th directorial venture and is produced by Ramesh Taurani under Tips Films. Taurani, who worked with Dhawan on hits like Coolie No 1, also confirmed that filming will span 20 days in November, with the film still on track for its planned release on 2 October 2025.
There were also rumours about actress Sreeleela joining the cast, but Taurani has shut down those reports, confirming Mrunal Thakur as the female lead without any additions.

Alongside Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, Varun is juggling multiple projects, including Shashank Khaitan’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari with Janhvi Kapoor, and the highly anticipated Border 2.
