RRR Japan Box Office: SS Rajamouli’s Film Is Running For 305 Days & Counting

RRR, the epic historical drama directed by SS Rajamouli, starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan in the lead roles, has achieved a remarkable feat at the Japan box office by running for over 305 days and collecting around 2.345 billion yen (about Rs 140 crore) so far. The film, which was released in Japan on October 21, 2022, has become the highest grossing Indian film in the country by a huge margin and has surpassed the lifetime collections of many Hollywood and Japanese films.

RRR beats Muthu and Baahubali to become the highest grossing Indian film in Japan

RRR has broken the record of Muthu, the 1995 Rajinikanth-starrer, which was the highest grossing Indian film in Japan until now, with a box office collection of 400 million yen (about Rs 22 crore). Muthu was released in cinemas and on limited screens and ran for a year. RRR has also outperformed the Baahubali franchise, which was also directed by SS Rajamouli and had earned rave reviews and huge collections in Japan. Baahubali: The Beginning had collected 100 million yen (about Rs 5.5 crore) and Baahubali: The Conclusion had collected 265 million yen (about Rs 14.5 crore) in Japan.

RRR receives love and appreciation from Japanese audience and critics

RRR has received a tremendous response from the Japanese audience and critics, who have praised the film for its grand visuals, thrilling action sequences, emotional drama, and powerful performances by the lead actors. The film has also been appreciated for its portrayal of the friendship and struggle of two freedom fighters, Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by Jr NTR), who fought against the British colonial rule in India. The film also features Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in supporting roles.

The film has recorded good footfalls and occupancy rates in theatres across Japan, despite the Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions. The film has also been screened in IMAX format in 31 screens, which is the highest for an Indian film in Japan. The film has also got its own Honest Trailer and Pitch Meeting, which are popular YouTube series that make fun of Hollywood films.

The film has also won several awards and accolades for its technical excellence and entertainment value. The film recently won the Best International Film award at the 50th Saturn Awards, which are presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films. The film was nominated in multiple categories, including Best International Film, Best Action Adventure and Best Director.
