Akshay Kumar’s Samuk has added another notable name to its line-up. Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that Bengali star Rukmini Maitra is joining the cast of the Kanishk Varma directorial, creating a fresh screen pairing with Akshay as filming continues in the UK.
Backed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah under Sunshine Pictures and co produced by Aashin A. Shah, the film has been in the works for more than two years. The production is currently underway in the UK, with the team building Samuk as a theatrical Hindi entertainer rooted in science fiction, action and survival.
Latest Casting Update
Rukmini’s casting adds an interesting new texture to the film’s ensemble. She arrives with strong commercial recall in Bengali cinema and brings a presence that fits a project headlined by Akshay Kumar, especially one that is aiming for a distinctive visual world and a performance led supporting cast.
The development also gives Samuk another point of interest because it reunites Akshay with producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah after 13 years. That run gives Samuk added significance. A Hindi theatrical film opposite Akshay Kumar offers Rukmini one of her clearest opportunities yet to deepen her footing in the wider Hindi market, while also placing her within a large scale commercial vehicle designed for a broader national audience.
