Bhoot Police, starring Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Yami Gautam had wrapped up the shoot earlier this year, after shooting major chunks in Himachal Pradesh.
We have now learnt that the film is getting ready to release and since there’s no certainty around when the theatres would open, the makers have initiated talks with Disney+ Hotstar for a direct-to-digital release. The film was earlier slated to release in cinemas on 10th September, 2021.
A source close to development has now revealed to Pinkvilla, “There is so much uncertainty around the country due to the spike in Covid-19 cases and no one can assure as to when will things be back to normal. The cinema consumption habit has also changed for the audience significantly and only event films will get the cash registers ringing to start with. Hence, Ramesh Ji decided to take a direct to digital route with his horror comedy.”
“Disney+Hotstar is on an acquisition spree again, speaking to multiple producers. If all goes as planned, they will announce a slate of Hindi releases for their platform, in the same manner as they did in 2020,” the source added.
The official announcement on the same, however is still awaited.
The film was earlier announced in November 2019 with Saif, Ali Fazal and Fatima Sana Shaikh, underwent a cast change where Saif was joined by Arjun Kapoor, Yami and Jacqueline. The team released the poster with the new cast in November 2020 when they started the shoot in Dharamshala.
The film is produced by Tips and Akshai Puri.
Director Pavan Kirpalani had said about the film, Bhoot Police earlier, “We are excited to bring this spooky adventure-comedy and really happy to have Saif and Arjun join the team as they are a perfect fit for this crazy entertainer. Both of them will be seen in very different avatars and will bring their trademark humour to the script.”
