In the latest update on the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, the main suspect has admitted to his crime. The police arrested a man from Thane earlier today, and investigations are still ongoing.
The arrested man (Vijay Das) works as a waiter at a local restaurant.
Main Accused In Saif Ali Khan Attack Case Admits His Crime
Police sources revealed that he confessed to the crime. He said, “Ha maine hi kiya” (Yes, I did it).
The authorities later identified the attacker as Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national. Shahzad had been using multiple fake identities, including Bijoy Das, Vijay Das, Mohammad Illyas, and BJ, to hide his true background after entering India. The police confirmed that he had used the name Vijay Das to avoid detection.
Shahzad had been changing locations frequently to evade capture. He tried to stay out of CCTV footage and hid in areas like Dadar and Worli. After several days on the run, he was caught in a remote area near Ghodbunder in Thane, nearly 70 hours after the attack.
Mumbai Police said Shahzad grew nervous as they got closer to him. He was found hiding in dense mangroves, trying to stay out of sight. He was arrested and taken to Khar police station for interrogation. He is expected to be brought to Bandra Metropolitan Court today.
Initially Arrested Suspect Released
Akash Kanoji, a man from Durg, was also detained in the case. However, it was later confirmed that he is not the main suspect. Kanoji spoke to ANI from a police jeep. He shared, “I did not do anything wrong. I was brought here for questioning and now I have been released. I am not the accused.” The police clarified that he was a suspect, not the primary offender.
Saif Ali Khan is now recovering from the injuries caused at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai.
