Saif Ali Khan was attacked at his Bandra home last week by an intruder identified as Mohammad Shehzad. The suspect allegedly stabbed Saif several times in what seemed to be a robbery attempt.
Saif suffered serious injuries, including wounds to his thoracic spine, and had to undergo emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital. After six days, he was discharged and is now recovering at home.
Mumbai Police Claims Arrested Accused In Not Co-operating In Saif Ali Khan Case Investigation
Shehzad (a Bangladeshi national) has been placed in police custody until January 29, 2025. The Mumbai Police reported that he has not been cooperating with their investigation, leading them to suspect he may have accomplices.
Prosecutor Prasad Joshi shared in court that authorities are looking into Shehzad’s past, including how he obtained a fake Aadhaar card under the name Vijay Das.
The police have started a forensic analysis of important evidence. They have sent Saif’s clothes, as well as those of other witnesses and the suspect, to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).
Blood samples from Shehzad are also being examined. The police have seized the weapon used in the attack, as well as Shehzad’s mobile phone, SIM card, scarf, and bag, for further investigation.
CCTV footage from Saif’s home and surrounding areas has been collected. Investigators are using facial recognition technology to track Shehzad’s movements before and after the attack. However, they are still trying to identify the source of the weapon and the shoes worn by the suspect during the crime.
Police Also Probes Possible Accomplices
The court acknowledged progress in the investigation but called for further inquiry.
According to Indian Express, Mumbai Police noted in their remand application, “During the investigation, it has been strongly suspected that the arrested accused may have additional accomplices, and an inquiry regarding this is underway.”
The fake Aadhaar card has added another twist to the investigation. The police are working to determine if Shehzad had assistance in creating the fake ID or in planning the attack. They are also looking into how he obtained the mobile phone and SIM card found with him, which may reveal more about his connections.
