As soon as Saiyaara hit cinemas on July 18, it took audiences by storm. Directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Yash Raj Films, the film featuring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda drew praise for its soulful soundtrack, emotional depth, and magnetic performances. Within four days, it entered the ₹100 crore club and crossed ₹150 crore in just six days, becoming one of the year’s biggest blockbusters.
Saiyaara Eyes New OTT Release Strategy
Originally, Saiyaara was expected to arrive on Netflix in late September, following the standard eight-week theatrical window. However, a new report in Times of India reveals that the makers are now in talks with Netflix to delay the film’s digital premiere to Diwali 2025 by extending its theatrical run to 90 days.
This move would give Saiyaara a longer big-screen presence while capitalizing on festive streaming viewership during the Diwali window.
Box Office Milestones and Audience Response
From a ₹21.5 crore opening to a ₹35.75 crore Sunday, the film showed strong momentum through its first week. Mid-week collections remained steady, with Saiyaara crossing ₹155 crore in just six days. Film is set to cross 175 crore net in 1st week. Film has crossed Salman Khan’s Sikandar and tomorrow it will cross Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par and Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2.
The film’s success is especially significant given the lack of big names in the lead cast. Both Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda have been praised for their fresh screen presence and emotional performances.
A Shift in Industry Norms?
Extending the theatrical window is a bold move, especially when most films today turn to OTT within 6 to 8 weeks. Saiyaara may now set a precedent for mid-budget films that manage to break out at the box office and want to delay their digital drop to maximize returns across platforms.
If the deal with Netflix is finalized, Saiyaara is likely to arrive on the platform around mid-October to early November, just in time for Diwali. Until then, the theatrical run continues to build momentum for one of 2025’s biggest romantic hits.
