Bollywood superstar Salman Khan found himself in hot water on social media after tweeting about the India-Pakistan ceasefire; after he deleted the tweet only seconds later. The actor tweeted, “Thank God for the ceasefire” on X (formerly Twitter) to celebrate India and Pakistan announcing a ceasefire following yesterday’s destructive days at the LoC.
However, not only did Salman get backlash for the tweet—the timeliness of the tweet and his silence during the Operation Sindoor military operation against the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist attack—evoked ire.
Netizens ripped into Salman for the “selective empathy”.
The tweet was deleted within hours—ironically just as Pakistan violated the ceasefire; there was bombing reported in Srinagar.
The Tweets Drew Plenty of Angry Responses:
- “The ceasefire lasted as long as @BeingSalmanKhan’s movie in theatres,” said one.
- “He tweets after the war stops; he never spoke out when our soldiers were dying on the front lines,” said the next.
Some comments even accused Salman and other top actors of staying silent to protect their overseas fanbase and business in Pakistan and the Gulf regions.
Fan Sentiment Turns Sour
Long-time fans expressed heartbreak and betrayal. One viral post read:
“I was his fan for 15 years. But today, I hate him. Not a word when war was on, but he tweeted for peace, then deleted it when Pakistan violated the ceasefire. Coward.”
Another called him a “snake in the grass”, accusing him of empathy without action and timing without courage.
Salman’s Silence During Operation Sindoor is Under the Microscope
While backlash rekindled conversations about the actor’s complete silence during Operation Sindoor, India’s MSP of terrorist actions—in the middle of the challenge from fans and the public, several celebrities, including Sanjay Dutt, Janhvi Kapoor, and Manoj Bajpayee, took to public platforms to support the Armed Forces.
Salman’s silence had a real sense of disconnection amongst the industry peers.
The deleted ceasefire tweet is now perceived as a message of despair—and a poor PR move, carrying even further separation with him and his patriotic fanbase.
BoxOfficeWorldwide Verdict
In the rapidly shifting panorama of hyper-aware digital media spaces we now live in, even silence wears the weight of consequences.
The deleted ceasefire tweet pointed critique that not only has losses to deconstruct besides his ‘words’, but his motives too.
As collective fans want clarity from the public figures they follow, there are instances where a ‘neutrality’ will simply NOT cut it—in periods of national sentiment peaks.
