Salman Khan And Apoorva Lakhia Reboot Maatrubhumi With 40-day Reshoot And A Chinese Track Composed By Himesh Reshammiya

Salman Khan’s war drama Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace is being reshaped in a big way behind the scenes. After the film’s headline making title change from Battle of Galwan, the latest confirmed development is that director Apoorva Lakhia and Khan have gone back to the edit table and then straight back to the set, mounting an extended reshoot schedule that is set to materially alter the film’s final cut.

The reboot is not just about optics or a new poster. It is a creative recalibration that now includes a Chinese language song, with the music being composed by Himesh Reshammiya.

What’s Changing In Maatrubhumi Now

The production has been in reshoot mode since February 2026, with significant portions being filmed in Mumbai. As per information from the project, the patchwork is substantial, with the fresh shoot planned for close to 40 days. The reshoots are understood to include newly written scenes intended to shift the film’s emotional framing and messaging, moving it beyond a straight battle recounting.

Alongside these additions, the team is also planning a Chinese song that will be composed by Reshammiya. Salman is expected to shoot the number after the track is finalised and recorded. The decision to introduce the song and new scenes is being positioned as a narrative choice that underlines peace, harmony, and the futility of war, while keeping the film rooted in its central conflict.

The film, directed by Lakhia and presented under Salman’s home banner, features Salman as late Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu. Chitrangda Singh stars as the female lead, with Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia in key roles. The film is inspired by the June 2020 Galwan Valley clash, which saw Indian and Chinese troops engage in a brutal confrontation in extreme high altitude conditions.

A tentative October window is being discussed for the theatrical release.

Salman Khan’s Recent And Upcoming Work

In the last few years, Salman headlined Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023) and followed it with Tiger 3 (2023), which reunited him with Katrina Kaif and expanded the YRF Spy Universe. Before that, he appeared in the Telugu blockbuster GodFather (2022) in a prominent extended cameo that drew considerable attention.

With Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace now undergoing major revisions, the film stands out as one of his most serious, real events inspired roles in recent years, especially given the physicality and the military setting. Beyond this title, Salman also has The Bull announced, a film based on a real life military operation, keeping him firmly in the space of large scale, event driven storytelling.
