Salman Khan And Raj And Dk Lock January 2027 Shoot For Ambitious Superhero Film

Salman Khan’s next big-screen move is shaping up to be one of the more unusual turns in his recent lineup. The actor is set to headline a superhero action film with Raj and DK, with the makers now working towards a January 2027 start for principal photography. The project marks Khan’s first collaboration with Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK, and it also signals the filmmaker duo’s return to theatrical direction after nearly a decade.

The January 2027 plan is now falling into place as Raj and DK close out Farzi 2 and prepare to shift into pre-production on the Salman Khan film. Groundwork on the superhero project is expected to begin around the end of October, giving the team the final two months of 2026 to lock prep before the cameras roll. The film is being mounted as a large-scale action entertainer, with Khan expected to play a battle-worn crime-fighter nearing retirement, a character setup that could give the film a more emotionally layered edge than a standard comic-book spectacle.

A source close to the development told, “Raj and DK are occupied with Farzi 2. The final schedule of the Shahid Kapoor-led series started this week. After they wrap it, the team will immediately get into the pre-production of the Salman film. The groundwork will begin towards October-end.”

The timeline aligns with the packed date diary of Khan, who is currently shooting director Vamshi Paidipally’s action film, the working title of which is SVC63. The source added, “Another 50 days of shooting is left on it. Salman will juggle SVC63 and Bigg Boss 20, before he starts preparing for the superhero flick by the year-end.”

January 2027 Shoot Timeline Falls Into Place

What makes the update especially interesting is the precision of the timeline. Raj and DK have been firmly in the streaming space for years, and this film now appears to be the vehicle that takes them back to cinemas. Their last theatrical directorial release was A Gentleman in 2017, after which they built a strong long-form portfolio with titles such as The Family Man, Farzi and Citadel: Honey Bunny.

That makes the Salman film more than just a star pairing. It is also a creative pivot for the directors, who have increasingly become associated with edgy, genre-bending series. A superhero film led by Khan gives them a much larger mainstream canvas, while also testing how their distinctive storytelling voice translates back to a theatrical event film.

Salman’s 2026 Commitments Before The Superhero Film

Khan’s calendar appears to support that January 2027 launch. He is currently occupied with Vamshi Paidipally’s SVC63, which is listed for a 2027 release on IMDb, and his broader schedule also includes Bigg Boss 20 before he can fully transition into prep mode for the Raj and DK film. Around 50 days of shooting are still understood to be pending on SVC63, making the rest of 2026 a tightly managed stretch before he turns his attention to the superhero project by year-end.

That scheduling context also explains why the Raj and DK film is being positioned as a 2027 production milestone rather than an immediate start. With one film already in progress and television commitments in the mix, Khan’s move into the superhero space appears carefully slotted rather than rushed.

Why This Film Matters For Salman Khan

For Khan, the project arrives at an interesting point in his career. After Tiger 3 in 2023, he followed up with cameo appearances in Singham Again and Baby John in 2024, before leading Sikandar in 2025. His immediate road ahead already includes SVC63 and the Raj and DK superhero film, giving his slate a stronger action-driven identity heading into 2027. In that sense, this collaboration does not feel like an isolated experiment. It looks more like a deliberate attempt to refresh his commercial screen image with a new genre spin and new creative voices.
