Sanjay Leela Bhansali is one of the most successful, influential, and celebrated filmmakers in Bollywood. He is known for his grandeur of storytelling, beautiful picturization of songs as well as large sets. After spending years making his kinds of films, Bhansali is now gearing up to be a part of the digital world with his highly ambitious web series titled Heeramandi.
While the shooting of this Netflix series has been underway, recent media reports stated that Bhansali and his entire cast and crew will be going to Lucknow. They will be in the city to shoot some important portions of the drama series. The shooting of Heeramandi began last year and a majority of portions were shot in Mumbai’s Filmcity studio where large sets were erected.
SLB Wants To Capture The Real Essence In Lucknow
Sanjay Bhansali is known as a perfectionist who gives a lot of attention to even the smallest and minute things in his projects. But he realized that there is an important portion in the series that needs to be shot in a different location. A source stated, “There is an important portion in the narrative, and the makers feel that Lucknow will be the perfect setting for that. SLB’s team has already left for the recce, and will finalize the shoot dates after locking the final locations. This is not a big schedule though, and they will be in Lucknow only for a few days.”
About Heeramandi
In February this year, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Netflix unveiled the first look of Heeramandi. The period drama series stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal, Richa Chadha and Sanjeeda Shaikh. At the event, Sanjay said that he has gone bigger on this OTT show. “It’s my biggest project as yet,” the director said. Heeramandi chronicles the story of three generations of courtesans in Heeramandi in pre-independent India. The real-life Heeramandi is currently in Lahore, Pakistan.
Ever since its announcement, the show has been generating a lot of hype, mainly because of Bhansali’s foray into long-form storytelling through the digital space. While there is no announcement on its release date, we can expect it to drop early next year on Netflix.
