Sanjay Leela Bhansali Upset With Heeramandi Shoot, Will Take Up Camera Himself

Whether it is Ram Leela or Bajirao Mastani, Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s films are characterized by opulence and grandeur. The maestro himself directed the above-mentioned films and they grossed ₹201 crores and ₹356 crores respectively.

One expects his next project, Heeramandi, to have the same scale, and it reportedly does. But the director, who is only helming one episode of the anticipated show, isn’t happy with what he has seen of the project. So, it looks like Heeramandi is going to be reshot.

Sanjay’s Leela Bhansali Isn’t Satisfied With Heeramandi

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known for paying keen attention to every little detail of his films and this time Heeramandi has seemingly not lived up to his expectations. Bollywood Hungama reports that the director wasn’t happy with some portions of the shot project. The site wrote:

“The sets of Heeramandi are on fire these days, although not physically and more metaphorically. Sanjay Leela Bhansali who is overseeing the entire project, recently watched a few rushes of what was shot, and the filmmaker came back unhappy with certain portions.”

So now SLB has decided to reshoot some portions of the series. As such, the cast of the show which is set in the pre-partition era will have to redo their work again. Bollywood Hungama stated:

“Massive sets sprawling 1,60,000 sq. ft were developed for the shoot by Bhansali’s associates. However, they did not meet the keen filmmaker’s eye for detail. Known for his opulent style of filmmaking, SLB felt that certain portions shot by his associates did not meet his expectations, and has therefore decided to reshoot some.”

But this time might be better than the last for the actors. Why? It’s because Bhansali himself will be doing the reshoots.

The outlet reports that SLB is going to personally shoot all the sequences he didn’t feel were up to his standard. While the cast consisting of Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, and Manisha Koirala, among others, will be able to work directly with the veteran director himself this time, there are still more problems.

This trouble is about dates since the actors had previously allotted set dates for the show. Now, that schedule is presumably in total disarray. As such, now it’s a game of wait-and-watch to see how the cast as well as the crew of Heeramandi manage the project with new dates. The show will be streamed on Netflix.
