What began as backlash over a song has now turned into a high-profile standoff, with the National Commission for Women tightening the screws on the team behind Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke. In the latest escalation, Nora Fatehi has been given what the commission described as a final chance to appear in person, while Sanjay Dutt has also been directed to present himself before the panel.
The move has pushed KD: The Devil into an uncomfortable spotlight just as the film builds toward release. The NCW had taken suo motu cognisance of the controversy over lyrics that drew objections from the commission, and the matter has now moved beyond public criticism into formal proceedings involving some of the project’s biggest names.
NCW Draws A Hard Line
At the hearing held on April 6, Nora Fatehi’s counsel appeared before the commission, but the NCW refused to accept legal representation in place of her personal appearance. The panel then set April 27, 2026, as the next date for Fatehi to appear before it.
Sanjay Dutt, who informed the commission that he was abroad for professional reasons, was directed to appear in person on April 8, 2026. The hearing was chaired by NCW chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, who underlined the panel’s position, saying, “The dignity of women cannot be compromised in the name of creativity.”
Also present before the commission were lyricist Raqueeb Alam, director Prem, and KVN Productions representatives Gautam K M and Suprith. According to the commission, those who attended submitted a written apology and acknowledged the song’s negative social impact. They also told the panel they would work toward women’s empowerment over the next three months and submit a report.
Why The Song Landed In Trouble
The row centres on the lyrics of Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke, which drew objections soon after release and quickly spiralled into formal complaints. Concerns were raised over the language used in the song and the wider impact such content could have in the public space, especially on younger audiences.
The makers later pulled the song from YouTube, signalling how seriously the backlash had grown. The track belongs to KD: The Devil, the Kannada action drama directed by Prem and produced by KVN Productions, with Dhruva Sarja leading a cast that includes Sanjay Dutt, Shilpa Shetty, Ramesh Aravind, V. Ravichandran, Jisshu Sengupta and Nora Fatehi.
A Career Moment Now Under Sharper Scrutiny
For Nora Fatehi, the summons arrives at a time when her on-screen presence has been widening beyond special appearances and dance numbers into a more varied mix of mainstream film roles. That makes the NCW proceedings especially significant for her public image, with the controversy unfolding at a moment when her career visibility is already high.
In 2024, she featured in Crakk, Madgaon Express and Matka. In 2025, she appeared in Be Happy, which premiered on Amazon Prime Video on March 14 alongside Abhishek Bachchan and Inayat Verma. She also has Ufff Yeh Siyapaa and Thamma among her confirmed titles, while KD: The Devil remains one of her most prominent upcoming theatrical projects. The current controversy has now arrived at a pivotal point in her screen career and public positioning.
