Awarapan 2 has got fans feeling all kinds of emotions, but it’s also brought up a talk about the due credits. Just days after the sequel announcement, writer Shagufta Rafique dropped a strong message on social media.
She reminded everyone that she wrote the screenplay and dialogues for the first Awarapan and helped shape its emotional core.
Shagufta Rafique Asks For Credits Days After Awarapan 2 Announcement
Rafique shared a series of tweets confirming her work on the 2007 film. She even posted a poster of the Korean film A Bittersweet Life and wrote, “Yahan se adapted ki thi film…sab das saal se jaante hai. Ab maine jo badla uska credit to mera banta hai..Aaj hi dekhlo sab.”
With this post, she openly admitted that Awarapan was adapted from the Korean drama.
In another tweet, she made it clear that she’s not writing for Awarapan 2. Her exclusion from the sequel’s writing team seems to have hit a nerve. That’s understandable, considering how deeply her writing is linked to the original. Rafique has spent years building a name for herself with her raw and emotional storytelling.
She came from a difficult background and rose to become one of Bollywood’s most respected writers. Her work in Awarapan still gets praise for its strong characters and powerful emotions.
Emraan Hashmi On The Sequel
Well, Awarapan 2 is already grabbing attention since its announcement. Emraan Hashmi, who’s returning as Shivam Pandit, shared that the team will start filming in July 2025. He also revealed that the movie will hit cinemas on April 3, 2026.
He announced the sequel with a short teaser and wrote, “Bas mujhe kuch aur der zinda rakh… #Awarapan2 in cinemas, 3rd April 2026.”
The teaser showed Hashmi standing alone on a boat, looking at the sunset. His voiceover said, “Kisi aur ki zindagi ke liye marna hi meri manzil hai.” The video also included throwback scenes from the first film with Shriya Saran. The classic track “Tera Mera Rishta” also played in the background.
The sequel, titled Awarapan 2: The Journey Continues, promises the same mix of pain, love, and redemption that fans loved in the first part. The makers haven’t revealed the full cast yet, but fans are already making guesses and hoping to see familiar faces back on screen.
