Sohum Shah is riding high on the success of his folk horror film Tumbbad, which recently returned to cinemas and has received an outpouring of love from audiences. In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Shah opened up about his career journey and the inspiration he draws from Shah Rukh Khan.

He credits King Khan for helping him believe that outsiders can make a name for themselves in Bollywood.
Sohum shared that Shah Rukh Khan’s story was pivotal for him. He remarked that if Khan hadn’t ventured into the industry, many would still think that Bollywood was only for locals.
“If Shah Rukh Khan hadn’t come to Bombay, it would have been like the industry is of the people of Bombay. Outsiders are not welcomed, and they can’t participate,” he explained.
Shah’s admiration for Shah Rukh goes deep. He said, “Since childhood, a seed grows inside that I would also go there and do something because SRK did it. He also came from Delhi, and was an outsider made a name for himself in the industry. Probably, we can also try. So, Shah Rukh Khan’s journey has been an inspiration.”
Sohum Says Shah Rukh Khan Is Not Less Than A God To Him
The Tumbbad star recalled that Shah Rukh even liked the trailer of his film and tweeted about it back in 2018. This personal connection adds to his admiration.
He said, “Aapke liye kya Bhagwaan se kya kum hoga koi aadmi.” (He is not less than God to me.)
Shah revealed that there was a time when he would eagerly watch every interview with Shah Rukh, highlighting how much he has looked up to him.
For Shah, it was a “dream come true” when his idol acknowledged his work. The validation from the Badshah of Bollywood made a significant impact on his career and motivation.
