Shah Rukh Khan REFUSED To Charge Interest After Financially Backing 2017 Film Ittefaq, Said ‘Yeh Haraam Hai Mere Liye’

Shah Rukh Khan generously funded Ittefaq without reading the script and refused to take any interest on his investment.

Shah Rukh Khan is known for his generosity and producer Renu Chopra recently shared a story that proves it. The Bollywood superstar financially supported the 2017 film Ittefaq without hesitation. He even refused to take any interest on his investment.

How Shah Rukh Khan Lent His Support To Ittefaq

Renu Chopra (producer and wife of the late filmmaker Ravi Chopra) spoke about how SRK backed her family when her son Abhay Chopra was making his directorial debut. In an interview with Pinkvilla, she revealed that SRK didn’t just fund the project—he did it without reading the script.

She recalled, “Shah Rukh had only done guest appearances for us before. But when we had to make Ittefaq, his office and ours shared a wall, so we decided to approach him. I asked if I could come to discuss it, but he insisted, ‘Nahi nahi. Aap nahi aaoge Renu ji, main aata hoon.’ He was so respectful, but since he was busy, I had to eventually go myself.”

Renu shared that when they met, SRK welcomed them warmly and treated them with respect. When she told him she didn’t have enough money for the film, he immediately agreed to help. “He said he’d do it without reading the script. His belief was, ‘I’ll never back the horse, I’ll back the jockey.’ He trusted my son and the team, and that was enough for him.”

SRK remained committed throughout the film’s production and ensured the project had full support. Even when it came to finances, he stayed generous.

Renu revealed, “When the film was completed, like all other financial deals, there was supposed to be an interest rate. But Shah Rukh refused, saying, ‘Nahi, yeh haraam hai mere liye. Main nahi lunga.’ That’s the kind of person he is.”

SRK’s Work Front

On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan is expected to start shooting for his next action-packed film, King, next month. However, reports suggest that the schedule might be delayed.

The film, directed by Pathaan helmer Siddharth Anand, will also feature his daughter Suhana Khan alongside Abhishek Bachchan.
