SRK Declines Takht Because of Costume
Shah Rukh Khan shared an amusing unknown story at the WAVES Summit 2025 that had the audience laughing and began making headlines on social media. Speaking with Karan Johar and Deepika Padukone on a panel with the title “The Journey: From Outsider to Ruler”, SRK recounted the one time he actually thought about quitting Bollywood.
And all because he had to wear a skirt.
“When Karan came to me with a script, I was sitting at home. I won’t name the film,” SRK joked, then followed with a laugh,
“The character had to wear a skirt throughout the film, so I said, ‘Yaar, aisa toh nahi hoga.'” (Watch here)
Insiders now suggest that the script was, in fact, Takht, which was an ambitious period drama Karan Johar was once developing with a royal ensemble cast.
Shah Rukh Khan‘s Shocked Honest Response Shocked Fans
The actor’s humorous and even enlightening reply gave fans a rare glimpse into the behind-the-scenes decisions made even by the biggest stars. He added,
“It was one of those old-era films where men wore skirts — not androgynous men like me.”
Takht may have eventually been put on the back burner because of creative differences and schedule logistics, but the new information implies that casting — even King Khan himself! — was complicated even in development.
Why SRK Passing on Takht is Significant
- It represents the kind of creative limitations even actors at the very top of the industry think about carefully.
- It signifies the connection — and complicated relationship — between SRK and Karan.
- It builds intrigue surrounding what was once the artistically mysterious cancellation of Takht — a cinematic interest that has certainly amused fans through the years.
As fans reminisce about what could have been, SRK again demonstrates that his “no” stories carry headline attention.
